Made from several strips of Super 8 film shot on a windswept shore of Lake Manitoba, each cycle of this software-based artwork is filled with renewed variation. Each set of variations passes across the screen like waves. The randomized movements of the tree branches are being ‘processed’ by the wind, an effect that’s analogous to the data that’s being processed live, put into motion by algorithmic chance procedures. This generative, software-based artwork was made with free, open source web tools including GIFs, javascript, and HTML, adapted for non-web-based exhibition.
