Title – LOOM (for Anni Albers)
Duration – 100 minute seamless loop (3 details shown)
Soundtrack – silent
Exhibition – lightbox or projection
Video formats – 1080p/HD + 4K

The moving grid in this video references the structures that would have been in front of Anni Albers while she created her textile artworks. While I made this video, beginning with photographed strands of wool, the generated space I worked in was also a 3D grid: virtual lines defined the vertical, the horizontal, and depth (or the x, y, and z axes). This creation process was game-like … the illusion of 3D space provided by the CGI software was not unlike the ‘skybox’ cuboid play area found in many video games. I made this video loop over five months, as if moving through space, coding coordinates while using analogies from both 20th century music and visual art to aid in the structuring of the work.
